Practice Facilities

The Royal Ottawa Golf Club is well recognized for the consistency and condition of its golf courses. The main course and the Royal Nine are maintained in immaculate condition from the opening of the season until the snow flies. What is often overlooked, but much enjoyed and appreciated by our members and guest alike, is the extensive practice facilities we offer. These are available to all of those interested in improving their game, or simply 'killing some time' enjoying a sport we all love. The facilities include;

Our Practice Range:

• Offers an expansive natural grass practice range where you can hit real balls with whatever club you choose;
• Has artificial hitting stations to be used ONLY early in the year and in the event the natural teeing area is under maintenance; and
• Provides a rain shelter and fully serviced washrooms.

Our Short Game Practice Area:

• Offers an opportunity to practice your 80 yard and less pitch & chip shots to an elevated green maintained in the same condition & consistency as the greens on the golf courses. The green offers multiple targets, varying the distance and slope of your approaches;
• Provides a massive greenside bunker to improve your 'sand save' percentages; and
• Provides for a separate chipping area where you can choose to chip from fairway, fringe, or first cut of rough lies.

Our Practice Putting Green:

• Offers a massive and pristine surface to work on your 'payoff' stroke. Putts from any length and with the variety of subtle slopes similar to those hidden throughout our golf courses; and
• Strategically located near the Professional Shop where you can not only practice your lag putting and those testy 3-footers, but also see the comings and goings of our members and guests - great for lining up your matches. Most bets are won & lost before you get near the first tee!

Our Practice Net:

• A new facility with two artificial hitting stations; and
• Located near the Putting Green and available for those simply looking for a quick few warm-up swings before the round or that 'magic' something picked up in the magazine or on the Putting Green.

While these facilities are well used and in excellent condition, we continuously strive to improve our facilities in order to heighten the enjoyment of our members and guests. The coming year is no exception. The Practice Range will be undergoing extensive renovations in the fall of 2008 which will see the natural grass teeing area expanded by over 40%, irrigation and drainage facilities will be installed in the practice field itself, and target areas will be re-shaped and made more visible. This work will take place at the end of the season so as to lessen the inconvenience to our members and guests.
