Club Tournaments

As the following list will attest, there is ample opportunity for those members who wish to compete in Club-sponsored events. In addition, members may qualify for Ottawa Valley Golf Association and Quebec Golf Association tournaments.

MEN'S

Men's Opening
Sign up in teams, groups or as individuals prior to event. Format: 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.

Men's Night
Open to all Ordinary male members. Play throughout season. Entry fee applicable. Weekly and season prizes awarded based on Stableford scoring system.

Blair Cup
Match play with full handicap, for players with an A Class handicap index. Qualifying is medal play with full handicap. Best 16 players qualify. Play is from Blue Tees. Entries open two weeks before qualifying and close day of qualifying.

Grey Cup
Match play with full handicap, for players with a B Class handicap index. Qualifying is medal play with full handicap. Best 16 players qualify. Play is from White Tees.

Read Cup
Match Play with full handicap, for players with a C Class handicap index. Qualifying is medal play with full handicap. Best 16 players qualify. Play is from White Tees.

Bremner Shield
Qualifying round for four flights. Medal play with full handicap. All flights play from White Tees. Low 64 net scores will qualify. All flights will play match play with full handicap.

Chamberlain Cup
No qualifying. Teams of two. Random draw two-ball better ball match play from the White Tees. Handicaps are played as 80% of the difference from the low handicap in the group.

Veterans Cup
Open to all members 55 or older. Random draw to be made from the applicants. Match play with full handicap to be played for the White Tees.

Perley Cup
Open to all classes. Medal play with full handicap over 36 holes on two consecutive days. Play from White Tees.

Runge Trophy (Senior men's Championship)
Open to men age 55 or older. Medal play. No handicap. White Tees. Best 16 qualify for match play, no handicap.

Medal Championships
Medal play, no handicap. Two 18 hole rounds on Saturday / Sunday of the same weekend. 36 Hole score. Three divisions A: index of 9.3 or less, B: index between 9.3 and 16.4, C: Index 16.5 to 36.4.

Men's Closing
Usually the last Friday in September. Format: 1 p.m. shotgun start. Teams of four. Dinner and annual prize giving included in entrance fees.

Intersectional Team Qualifying
Team consists of 10 players and two alternates. There are three ways to qualify for the team:

  1. Club Champion

  2. Low five finishers in the Medal Play championship.

  3. Six other players are chosen from the qualifying tournament held over three days in late June.

Qualifying tournament is based on Stableford scoring system.

Senior Intersectional Qualifying
Team consists of eight players plus two alternates. Stableford points, no handicap. Total points determine eight-man team, plus two alternates, which is divided into three age categories: 55 to 59, 60 to 64 and 65 plus.

Carling Cup
Teams of two, two-ball medal play with full handicap. 18 hole competition. Open to teams with combined handicap of 25 or less.

Royal Ottawa Invitational
Sign up with guest, entry sheets are posted in late May. Entries normally close one month prior to event. Proof of guest's handicap is mandatory. Format to be determined by the tournament committee. Fee for entry includes Lunch, Cocktails, Dinner and Prizes.

Leveson - Gower
Two 18-hole rounds of medal play with full handicap on Saturday and Sunday of the same weekend. 36 hole net score.

Air Force Tournament
Open to past and present Canadian / Allied Airmen of the ROGC. Medal play with Handicap. 18 hole competition. One individual winner.

War Privileged Cup
Open to all members. Teams of two with full handicap. Better ball 18 hole competition.

Royal Ottawa Championship Week(Golf Week)
Qualifying Saturday. A class from Blue Tees, B and C class from White Tees. Medal play qualifying, no handicap. Low 16 in each class qualify for match play through week, no handicap.

A class trophy is the Lanark Bell, B class trophy is the Finnie Cup, C class trophy is the Tommy Williams Cup. The Runge Trophy final for Senior Championship is played on the final Saturday of Championship Week.


LADIES     [return to top]

All Ladies' Opening
1:30 shotgun on Main Course or Royal 9. Main course shotgun followed by dinner, Royal 9 shotgun followed by lunch. All lady members with golfing privileges are encouraged to play in this season opener. Scramble format. Sign up individually or in twosomes prior to event. Sign up posted early April.

Tuesday Ladies' Day (starting 2005)
Play commences the Tuesday after the All Ladies' Opening and continues until the end of September. Play a social or competitive round on the main course, times available starting at 8am. Ladies who do not have time to play 18 holes are encouraged to play in the morning with the "Niners" or sign up to play on the Royal 9 in the afternoon and stay for dinner.

Many of the ladies' club trophy events such as Ann Doyle, Fleck Memorial, Bonnie Matheson All-Irons and Davis Cup, are played during these rounds.

Tuesday Niners
Competition played on the Royal 9 each Tuesday morning with times reserved from 9:30 to 10:30. Play commences the Tuesday following All Ladies' Opening and continues until the end of September.

InterClub Matches
Four local clubs participate, with games being played at The Royal Ottawa in June, Ottawa Hunt in July, Rivermead in August, and Rideau View in September. Qualifying rounds scheduled on preceding Tuesdays. Four low net and four low gross players are chosen each qualifying to represent the ROGC. Individual net play, stableford scoring.

Play with the Pro
Teams consist of 3 players and their "chosen" Pro. Games are played on a pre-arranged date. At the end of the season the best scoring teams and their Pros have a "play-off" to determine the winning team; a very popular event with sign up starting at the All Ladies' Opening.

Intersectional Team
A CLGA Ottawa District, gross match play event played the second Monday in July. Clubs are organized into divisions with four clubs per division. Teams consist of seven players plus one alternate. Our players qualify over three consecutive Sundays in June, Stableford scoring, best two out of three games, one or two Captain's picks allowed. All lady members with golfing privileges are eligible to qualify.

Member-Guest
A fun day held on a Tuesday in June, 1pm shotgun with dinner following. Most recent format - Team Scramble. A very popular event.

Golf Week - Ladies' Club Championship
All ladies with golfing privileges and an established club handicap are welcome to participate. This is a gross medal play competition for A, B, and C division players with trophies awarded for Club Champion (A division winner), runner-up (Cairine Wilson Trophy), B division winner (Dubuc Trophy), and C division winner (Cuthbertson Trophy). Qualifying rounds are held on Tuesday and Thursday with the cut being made after Thursday play. Twenty-seven players plus ties play on the final day (Sunday).

Niners also hold their Club Championship during Golf Week with qualifying rounds on Monday and Wednesday and the final round played on Friday. The Junior Girls' Championship is played during golf week with the Maryon Rhodes Trophy awarded to the winner.


MIXED     [return to top]

Soper Cup Mixed Tournament
Mixed two - ball foursome. Select partners. Men drive on odd holes, ladies drive on even holes, then alternate shots to finish hole. Dinner is served after the event and included in entry.

Allan Ross Cup
Senior (Ordinary or Associate member) / Junior two ball medal play with ½ of combined team handicap. One 18 hole round.

Scobie Cup Mixed Tournament
Mixed two-ball foursome.

Gordon Gale Cup
Parent / Child team of any age. Teams of two, medal play with handicap (1/2 of combined team handicap).

Tri Service Tournament
Open to all members, including ladies, who have served or are serving in the Navy, Army or Air Force. 18 hole competition.

Egan Cup
Mixed two-ball foursome. Chapman system. Half of combined handicap.

Farquhar Cup
Mixed, match play. Men play White Tees, women play Red. Four ball, net better ball format.
